In the words of one of the world's most renowned poets,
"how do I love thee, let me count the ways..."
What better sentiment for a day destined to be filled with fanciful mementos of tenderness, boundless passion and excitement and above all, weather you're single or not, looking for love, searching for friendship, cherishing the partnership that you have or mending a heart that was once broken, Valentine's day is about love of all kinds.
Love of food, of birds feeding in the trees, love of long forgotten friendships re-kindled over love of fine wine, of date-night movie rentals and microwave popcorn, love of traveling to foreign lands with lovely foreign languages, love of family so tightly knit, of sweet and spicy siblings, love of lazy Sunday hobbies, of fantastic fridge left-overs, double dog greetings at the back door, love of drawn out dinners and passionate conversation, of chocolate in any form, warmth of the first spring sun, the melting snow and rivers of runoff alongside the road, of breakfast, of lunch, and of dinner, of neighbors who help out in any circumstance, love of books that never leave your bedside table, of coffee and cream with a hint of sugar, of husbands doing the dishes, love of smelling the rain long before it hits the ground, of garden vegetables and the first summer raspberry, of cold, crisp beer on the hottest summer days, the smell of chimneys filled with autumn smoke, of falling stars and swollen harvest moons, love of sappy cliches and memories that make your heart ache, love of everything around you, no matter the worth... love of who you are, and of those who love you the way you are... Valentine's day is about all love, and no matter who you are, where you come from or what you have, we all have love for something.
So on this February 14th, 2010, let us celebrate and cherish the love we have, and know that our hearts are full when we love, no matter what we love!
Happy Valentine's Day everyone!
